Chess Analysis Board

Set up a position and analyse chess moves online with Stockfish. This chess board analyser lets you explore a position and compare continuations; use Coach to import and review a complete game.

How to analyse a chess position

  1. Use the piece palettes to build your position. Clear removes the pieces; Reset restores the starting position. Erase removes an individual piece.
  2. Choose the side to move and set castling rights to match the game. Include both kings and use a legal position.
  3. Select Analyze to request a Stockfish suggestion. Play the suggested move or try your own, then explore the reply. Undo takes back a move; Editor returns to position setup.

What the evaluation means

A positive score favors White; a negative score favors Black. The number describes an advantage in pawn units, not a guaranteed result or a literal material count. Near zero means roughly balanced; an M indicator describes a mating sequence found by the engine. Suggestions can change as the position changes.

Before revealing a move, pick your own candidate and explain its purpose. Compare the suggested continuation and look for the threat or improvement you missed.
